NTU Bike Rally 2008 [128km]
whoaa, the experience for this "race" is seriously
breathtaking and will blow your friggin mindset away.
if you're those sucky cyclist which doesn't believe
in your own bike and your body, then, i think that
you wont be completing the race without the help of
the assistance from NTU students.
im blogging and im fucking tired ok? seriously.
got home at EST 6pm. then degreased my bike's chain
and finally repaired it (maintainence) cause there's
alot of faults in the front wheel and the back wheel.
slept at EST 7pm, and now.. just woke up due to
dehydration. LOL! blogging and going back to sleep soon kay!
heres the whole experience of the NTU bike rally!
scroll down!
starting of the day, i woke up at 4.30am on 01/6/08.
then prepared myself and pushed my bike down and dismantled
the front wheel and put it in the car boot. and the rest, push it
to the back passenger seat. soon after i've succesfully placed
all my equipments into the car (including my helmet)
me and my mom grabbed some light breakfast
at some stupid coffeshop which sells lousy bee hoon.
no joke, the bee hoon sucks like hell. but as we know, i need
that food to suppress the hydrochloric acid in my body.
went over to ECP after the food intake.
reached "Old Big Splash", WHICH IS THOUGHT IS THE MEETING
POINT CAUSE OF THE STUPID "MAP" THEY SENT US VIA EMAIL.
so, reached the "meeting place" and then i mounted all my
equipments onto the bike and remounted my front wheel.
tried my brake systems, lights. all working perfectly as usual.
bid goodbye to my mom then she went home.
i jumped back up onto my bike (with my bag behind me).
cycled over to the back of bigsplash and THERE IS
TOTALLY NOT EVEN A SINGLE SOUL EXCEPT
THE SECURITY AND NO ONE ELSE!
ok what the hell? then i asked the security.
clarence:" eh bro, where is the lagoon arh? "
security guard :" WAH, VERY FAR AWAY FROM HERE. "
"TURN LEFT, GO STRAIGHT ALL THE WAY, 20 minute! "
i was like "WHAT THE?!"
no joke, really friggin hell. then ok..
cycled thru the dark ecp, even though there's lamposts
which emits the light for visibility, but its quite hard
to maneuver cause the light IS DAMN DIM.
went on and on untill it suddenly rained and i was
like OH SHIT. HAHAHA! really!
reached the destination and the rain stopped -.-
then collected my race kit at those booths.
wore my event singlet and put on my bib number.
P300 <-- bib number. NICE RIGHT?! :DD starting when they fired the bullet ( air horn to be exact :P ) i was cycling damn slow, was relaxing. really relaxed.
our first checkpoint was Labrador park.
2nd NTU
3rd Kranji Reservior
4th Yishun Stadium
5th Serangoon Secondary School
6th Changi Village
7th ECP
so, from ECP to Labrador park, i saw some
funny cyclist and some "act garang" (act fierce).
there's this group of cyclist. around 17yrs old?
around 6 peeps. 2 were using those FULL FACE HELMET
which is used by DIRT BIKING. SERIOUS DOWNHILL.
and you have very very LITTLE air ventilation unlike
triathalon's helmet (good brands eg. LAZER ) which provides
aerodynamics and ventilations. well, that 2 act garang peeps
is wearing something more cute.
JEANS. CRAZY RIGHT?!
cycling + jeans = hot = dehydrate easier.
see lah, then when i reached the first checkpoint,
they're nowhere to be seen. SERIOUS NO JOKE!
NOWHERE TO BE SEEN! HAHAHA!
weaklings! so, reached and re-hydrated myself and off to NTU.
the route to NTU is like the normal route
which i've been training on for the past 2 trainings!
SENTOSA - WEST COAST -PENJURU - JURONG.
so, quite loved it and quite expected too. cause thats the most
convenient route for all cyclist (very little taffic lights ).
surprisingly, there's cisco which helped us alot :D
they even marshalled on their BIG MOTORBIKES!
cool ok!! HAHAHAHA! reached NTU, really exhausted.
but didnt "hit the wall" yet ;)
rehydrated and move on to Kranji Reservior.
THIS ROUTE. SERIOUSLY STUPID.
ALOT OF UPHILLS. AND IM LIKE OH SHIT.
very tiring leh. wa lao. and its like so boring route.
the weather is scorching and like what the.
very boring. need to go thru those bangla estates and
their looks on their faces... really perverted look. WTF? HAHAHAH!
reached the checkpoint, with alot of pretty marshalls over there.
all kept smiling at me, well, i must admit, im suave :P
HAHA! KIDDING! rehydrated (feeling hungry now) and left
that spot and going to YISHUN STADIUM.
ok, from kranji to yishun. really cocked up.
we're cycling from kranji - mandai - yishun ave 11 - yishun stadium.
during the MANDAI TO YISHUN AVE 11. REALLY WTF.
there's 5 PEAKS ( uphills ). and NTU Organisers are even
cheeky to put :"1st peak!" and so forth till the
"Last PEAK! YOU CAN DO IT ".
i was like. all the peaks. i "hit the wall" already.
told myself that my energy level = 13% left.
finally cycled thru. all of the cyclist behind and infront of me finally reached
yishun stadium together and we're complaining.
some said :"eh, just now that peak really hiong sia ".
seriously, damn fierce. imagine everyone's speed was
like from 20kmph till 5kmph.
THATS HOW STEEP THAT SHIT WAS. AHHAHAHA!
then suddenly, the organisers said : "guys listen up, we need to ask you
guys to stay here for additional 20 minutes
cause our marshalls are currently not in place yet! sorry! ".
ok. 20 LONG DARN MINUTES will let our legs acid.. i think
its latic or lactic acid to clog up. and there goes our momentum.
so, around 40 cyclist waited there. the rest of 260 were way behind.
nowhere to be seen again. HAHA!
20minutes UP! we're off to go again.
the NTU students really quite good lah.
(except for their organising proficiency).
they cheered us on and even give us a smile :D
really appreciated that :DD thanks for the motivation :D
cycled thru from Yishun Stadium to Serangoon Sec.
jialat, there's ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT of traffic
lights which stopped us from going thru.
and from 40 cyclist to 20 cyclist cause some CMI already.
TOTALLY HIT THE WALL. HAHHAHA!
WEAKLINGS! but well, i perservered even though i've hit
it long time ago. but recovered during the yishun checkpoint.
so, reached serangoon sec. first 20 were sitting down (with lead cyclist)
and chat chat chat. drank the SUPER DILUTED GATORADE
WHICH TASTES TOTALLY LIKE PLAIN WATER. HAHAHAHA!
eventually, more ppl showed up.
from 20-30-40. and then the organiser said :" GUYS, SORRY BUT
WE NEED TO HOLD YOU UP FOR 30 MINUTES UNTILL
1.30PM!" ok shit, the time was 12.55pm when they announced that.
so, its actually 35 minutes for god sake. and everyone was
really complaining, some were sleeping (wtf?) LOL!
time's up, we set off for our 2nd last destination
and then, FINISHING LINE!
so, our 2nd last destination was Changi Village and the last
is of course, East Coast Park! set off from Seragoon Secondary
and headed to Changi Village, during the journey, there's
lesser and lesser people behind me already.
im not lying nor to boast. along the way at Pasir Ris, we've
reached another few PEAKS. wtf right?
and on the curbs, there's Sundown Marathon banners
which includes something like :" 2km! " which actually
means that they've ran 2km.
back to the PEAKS at Pasir Ris (1 street before Elias Road/St).
there's only 4 cyclist inc me. 2 infront, 1 behind me.
those 3 cyclist were actually a team.
AND ITS GOD DAMN HARD TO OVERTAKE THEM
and furthermore, there is those 30deg uphills which
is really killing after around 104km of cycling.
so, i tried my best to overtake, but well, failed T.T
total of 2 road bikes, 1 mtb and mine (mtb).
WTH, they were cycling so fast. and on our left,
there's the sign inscribed "impossible is nothing"
very very motivating indeed.
well, we're rushing for time, soon thereafter the
peaks, we're pitting against each other to see who can
reach our 2nd last pitstop, which is Changi Village.
and im about to fall off my bike due to dehydration
and lack of muscle power! HAHAHA!
very tired but quite exciting to see all kinds of people
and the different sights in singapore.
ok, lets skip alot. i reached changi village and then
hydrated myself with the Gatorade (which tastes-
like tap water but got little flavour and colour).
ok skip somemore, HAHA!
from changi village, travelled down to
ECP using some weird places..
i think loyang way there. not quite sure.
HAHA! anyhow spit out some words ok! :D
well well, cycled thru and reached the runway
of our World's Number 2 AIRPORT! (it dropped by 1 rank)
and is currently sharing the number 2 placing
with Seoul Incheon Airport.
OK BACK TO TOPIC. HAHAHAHAHA!
so, theres a road divide the runway and
the bicycle tracks. we're cycling and suddenly
there's this stupid big aircraft take off.
the ground TOTALLY SHAKE.
what the hell lor. LOL. scare me.
but the trembles aint that strong to be exact.
just a small shake. very very minor vibrations ;D
the bike track quite boring.
i'll show some pictures later to let you readers
to clarify and understand what im talking clearly.
the newly constructed track is seriously, BLACK in
colour, rather than the old sucky greyish coloured roads.
damn old fashion. like so sian lah the colour. LOL!
well well, the track has painted some words which
goes like this :" 8990M to ECP ".
i was saying :" HOLY SHIT! "
HAHAHAHA! damn funny lah. 8990 meters.
which will take me 17minutes to complete and
reach somewhere the starting of ECP.
oh god! i need to cycle another 3km to reach
the finishing point! hehehe.
during the cycling of the newly constructed track,
i was looking downwards constantly to look at the
"how many meters left to ECP" thingy.
untill it reaches 100m to ecp.
i was damn elated ok!
my mindset was that AFTER MY RACE, IM GONNA
EAT MACDONALS' FOOD LIKE HOW I ATE A HORSE!
ok not so exxagerating.
anyway, when im closing up with my finishing point.
i could see is that im raising up both
of my hands in the air and cheering myself in glory
like how Lance Armstrong did it :D
BUT. BIG BUTS HERE!
when i was SUPER near the finishing point.
my whole body felt weak and i cycled with the
remaining energy left in my legs.
the NTU peeps cheered me on. and whoa, really nice lah.
imagine someone cheering you on with smiles on
their faces, pretty ones and handsome ones :D
damn happy ok!
finally, i crossed the finishing line and was panting
real hard. was grasping for air. the NTU helpers
over there said :"well done! i bet your butt is painful now"
seriously, my butt hurts TILL NOW! :((
and then i collected the finisher tee and whatever lah.
lazy to type anymore. HAHA!
NOW,
let the pictures do the talking :D
first checkpoint, Labrador Park!
Self Portrait (as usual) at Labrador Park!
Cycling on a road AFTER NTU CHECKPOINT!
Road to Kranji Reservior
4th Checkpoint (Yishun Stadium) where everyone
is held up and requenching their thirst
Yishun Stadium (held us up for 20minutes)
all fellow cyclist preparing for the "relaunch"
Serangoon Sec Checkpoint (delayed for 35mins)
Left = my bike
Right = another fellow cyclist's bike :D
THE PATHWAY WHERE THE GROUND SHOOK
WHEN THE PLANE TOOK OFF.
and im glad to say that im speeding too :D
Finisher of 128km On Wheels :D
cant give a natural smile :(
